Puppy Class (LLC 5503) Enroll in a beginner's course aimed at getting your puppy off to a great start. Basic skills like sit, stay and come will be worked on by our trainers. While also giving you a chance to try the commands yourself with your puppy. Also, this program will offer socialization with people and other puppies. The course is taught in a welcoming and kind setting that promotes enjoyment between dog and owner and gets participants ready for the American Kennel Club's S.T.A.R. puppy certification. On the final day of instruction, tests will be given. Papers for AKC registration will be provided to all passing participants; nevertheless, it is the owner's obligation to submit the paperwork and the required cost. Although family members are welcome, each puppy may only have one handler. Please note that dogs who exhibit excessive aggression towards humans or other dogs will not be allowed to continue with the course. Puppies must be under a year old, at least 12 weeks (about 3 months) old, and have received their first set of vaccinations. T1 6-7p.m. W Weitendorf Sept. 18-Nov. 13 $199 (No class Oct. 2) AKC Canine Good Citizen Class (LLC 3620) This course prepares you for the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen and Canine Good Citizen Advanced Certifications by offering basic pet obedience training in a lighthearted and welcoming environment. Together, pet owners and animals will develop mutual understanding. In order to help their pets learn appropriate behavior and to help them regain control, owners will train their animals together and make necessary corrections. Beginning with basic commands like sit, stay, down, come, walking on a leash and developing social skills, the training moves on to working in a setting that includes everyday noises, food, walkers and wheelchairs. Teams will be ready for the AKC CGC exam with these exercises, which also serve as a requirement for many organizations that support therapy dogs. On the last day of training, the instructor will administer certificate testing for AKC, CGC, and CGCA. All participants who pass will get paperwork to register for the Good Citizen Certificate with the AKC. (For the CTC processing, AKC will charge $10, and for the CGCA processing, $20. The owner is in charge of sending the paperwork and payment to the AKC.) Only dogs who are beginners or advanced can benefit from this class.
