In just a few hours you can learn enough about playing the guitar to give you years of musical enjoyment and you won’t have to take private lessons to do it. This crash course will teach you some basic chords and get you playing along with your favorite songs right away. Since this class is being held online with Zoom, you will be able to sit at home with your guitar and take this class without any pressure at all. Even better, this class includes an online book and online follow-up video lessons, you will be able to continue your practice and study on your own. An optional periodic online question and answer session is also included. A recording of the class is included as well. T1 6:30-9p.m. T Webinar Feb. 6 $69 How to Play Piano by Ear (LLC 4095) Learn one of music’s deepest mysteries: how to play songs without relying on music. A very practical presentation of music theory that includes predicting chord progressions, learning from recordings and transposing; all expressed in everyday language. This is an ideal follow-up to the “Instant Piano” class and is open to anyone who has a basic understanding of chords on any instrument. Expand your musical horizons, free yourself from sheet-music dependence and be the life of the party! Prior experience with chords recommended. Fee includes the online book, online follow-up lessons, a recording of the class and an optional monthly question and answer session. Class is held online using Zoom. T1 9-11:30a.m. S Webinar March 2 $69 You Can Uke (LLC 5381) The ukulele is a versatile instrument used for all kinds of music, from classical to pop. Students will learn about the ukulele and how to play, starting with basic chords and common songs and moving up to basic pop tunes. No previous musical instrument training is required. The course fee of $119 includes a ukulele and an electronic tuner. Bring your own ukelele and pay $79 for the class. For ages 14 and up. T1 9a.m.-Noon S Main March 2 See Above Ukelele Refresher (LLC 3966) Need to brush up on your ukulele skills? Dust off your ukulele and join us for this fun and interactive refresher course. Students will re-learn the basics and play a popular song as a group. Join in on the fun! Students must bring their own ukelele. For ages 14 and up. T1 9a.m.-Noon S Main March 9 $79 Pottery Beginning Wheel Throwing (LLC 5337) In this 8-week course, students will learn wheel throwing basics, including centering, opening and pulling vessels. Students will form cylinders, bowls and other shapes and learn how to evaluate form and function. Twenty-five pounds of recycled clay will be provided, but students can purchase additional clay from JJC if they wish. Students should bring a basic pottery tool kit (sponge, needle tool, metal scraper, wooden forming tool, wire clay cutter, wooden trimming tool and ribbon sculpting tool) to class. Previous experience in basic hand-building is helpful, but not required. T1 9a.m.-Noon S Main Feb. 10-March 30 $279 Advanced Wheel Throwing (LLC 5382) Designed specifically to hone wheel throwing skills, students will learn to throw a variety of functional forms such as bowls, plates, mugs and covered jars. Students will also learn how to throw lids and make and attach handles and spouts. Basic wheel throwing skills are required. Students must bring their own tools (sponge, needle tool, metal scraper, wooden forming tool, wire clay cutter, wooden trimming tool and ribbon sculpting tool), use clay purchased at JJC and only use the JJC studio glazes. T1 9a.m.-Noon S Main Feb. 10-March 30 $279 Pottery For Beginners (LLC 4669) Discover your inner artist by investigating a variety of hand-pottery construction, decoration and firing methods to create unique objects to take home in this 10-week class. No artistic ability or experience necessary. All tools, glazes and 25 pounds of recycled clay will be provided. Students may purchase additional clay from JJC. Ages 14 and up. T1 8-10a.m. S Main Feb. 10-April 13 $259 Pottery Open Studio Session (LLC 5097) Designed for those who have completed Pottery for Beginners, this is an opportunity to work in an open studio setting with an instructor available for limited support. Students must use clay purchased at JJC and the studio clear glaze. If they choose to purchase an alternate glaze, students are asked to only use studio glazes approved by JJC.
