The classes are designed to provide the students with a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to be a successful beekeeper. No previous experience with honey bees is necessary though previous owners of honey bees have found this class very helpful. The class is presented as a combination of classroom presentations and hands-on experiences in the apiary with live bees. Beekeeping I and II will expose the student to management techniques and practices necessary to keep a colony healthy and productive throughout the changing seasons and into winter. Topics covered will be equipment for beekeeping, acquiring your bees, managing your colony, honey bee biology, pest and disease management, honey production and harvesting, fall and winter preparations of the hive.
